Job Title: Telecommunications Technician

Job Summary:
Basic Function of Position
The incumbent is responsible for planning, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, training, and repairing unclassified radio, telephone, television, Audio/Visual (A/V), & other Information Technology equipment and systems used at post. The incumbent also runs and installs network cables supporting Department of State systems within the Consulate General compound and the Consul General Residence (CGR). Additionally, the incumbent provides first-tier support for the Consulate General’s circuits. The Information Systems Officer directly supervises the position.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Telecommunications Management or
Electronics Engineering is required.
Work Experience:
Minimum of three years of experience repairing/maintaining communications equipment or networks is
required.
Language:
Level 4 (Fluency) Speaking/Reading/Writing English.
Job Knowledge:
The jobholder needs to be familiar with private branch exchanges, programming, maintenance, and telephone ancillary devices. HF/UHF radio concepts and handheld applications, mobile technology, plans, and billing. Basic understanding of television and cable networks. Knowledge of power and grounding and IEEE concepts is required. Must be knowledgeable about both local and wide area networks. General knowledge of A/V components and services are required.
Skills and Abilities:
Good communications and technical skills. Be able to diagnose and resolve problems and maximize the
capabilities of resources. Must have a valid Class 2 driver’s license and must pass applicable testing for
the operation of USG vehicles. Jobholder will be an occasional money handler. The incumbent must be
able to lift at least 25kgs. Basic keyboard skill is required.
